A Tent or a House (Part 2)

Hide God's Word in your heart

"I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you." (Psalm 119:11 ESV)

Jesus says in John 15:14 that we are His friends if we do what He commands us. This is incredible to think that we are friends of God. God loves us so much that he considers us His friends. The eternal, omnipotent, loving creator who sustains the world with His word loves me enough to call me a friend? It leaves one without words to describe the joy this brings. The key [to hiding God's Word in your heart] is to do what He commands us to do. The only way to know what He asks of us is to look into His word. Look at what it says about itself:

"Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes." (Deuteronomy 6:4-9 ESV)

"But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness," (2 Timothy 3:14-17 ESV)

"For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart." (Hebrews 4:12 ESV)

Dear Heavenly Father,
As we hide Your Word in our hearts, let us have a divine, intimate encounter with You, The Lover of our soul. Let us meditate on Your Word with the strongest desire to come to You with clean hands and a pure heart. Abba, may the tent of our hearts shelter Your precepts as we passionately pursue a deeper relationship with You.
